Remy

EDIT: Jenny, Remy’s owner, was able to reach out to me (i.e. because of my technical difficulties with our conversation recording)—and thankfully, this post was able to be revised with more details about Remy! (Thanks Jenny!) Enjoy! :)

--------

So, last month I went to NYC to visit a good friend who was moving, and while I was there I was lucky enough to document a whole bunch of pups in Brooklyn and in the East Village.

And while in Tompkins Square Park, I was able to meet a lot of cool new pups, and I was so excited when I spotted a small French Bulldog. They’re one of my favorite breeds, because they remind me of a cute little piggy with bat ears!

On that note, meet Remy!

"We got Remy from a breeder in New Jersey. He was a Christmas gift from my husband—we had wanted a French Bull Dog for years."

What struck me to start talking to Jenny was that Remy was carrying around this blue rubber, "Chuck it" ball, snorting triumphantly with it each time he would retrieve it from across the park.

What was even funnier, was that almost every single time he would try to carry it back, it would pop out of his mouth because he was chewing on it, and he would end up sort of, "tossing it to himself" and he would just keep chasing it.

Over and over and over.

Remy is a year and a half old French Bull dog, and was a gift from Jenny's husband.

Over and over and over.

Jenny told me he's absolutely obsessed playing catch, and so I pulled out one of my Dog Park Diaries tennis balls to give to him, and then I watched an incredibly hard dilemma unfold when Remy had not just one—but TWO balls to now play fetch with.

Remy’s other biggest motivation besides his ball is food:

“His biggest trait is how food motivated he is. He eats four times a day because he has "empty stomach syndrome"! He gets hangrier than anyone I've ever met, and he wakes up at 6AM on the dot for his breakfast every morning! In traditional Frenchie fashion, he'll sleep the rest of the morning away after that.”

But apparently, Remy is so food motivated he’s made some very questionable food choices...

“When he was a puppy, he ate another dog's poo. I nearly had a meltdown when he started foaming at the mouth (before I knew why...). I was halfway out the door rushing him to the vet when I realized he was just totally disgusted. Needless to say, he has not done that since!”

Name: Remy

Favorite Foods: “Anything is food to him! I can't eat yogurt in the morning without having to give him his own little bowl. He's crazy for fruit - strawberries and watermelon, and mango is his latest craze!”

Superpower: “His superpower would be the ultimate guilt tripper - I can't leave for work with giving him a few treats, that face is irresistible!”

Fearless Frenchie: “Remy is actually pretty fearless actually. He's very suspicious of the Roomba though!”
