At the Pets in the Park event at Glasgow Park near Newark, DE—I had the chance to walk around and check out not only the huge grass park with tennis courts and a playground, but my favorite part…two impressively sized dog enclosures.
They had a small dog and a large dog enclosure. I meandered onto the large fenced in enclosure, where it had a tent for shade, a large picnic table, a water fountain for both dogs and owners, and many fun agility setups for the dogs to run through. After hitting up all of the tents at the event filled with dog treats, toys and other pet products, I made my way in to try and take pictures of a dog or two.
It was there I met with Bill and his beautiful Bluetick Coonhound named Bo.
Bo is one year old, and Bill has had him since October 2015. He got him from a woman who bought Bo for her husband, but because they had an apartment they couldn't give Bo the care and open space that the breed desperately needs.
Bill has 3/4 an acre of land where Bo enjoys running around the yard, and chasing his neighbors groundhogs. Bo is a Coonhound just like Gretchen (back 3 posts) and also has an impressive baying howl/bark as he played with the other large dogs at the park.
He also apparently really enjoys to dig!
"His big thing now is….I don't know if you need a hole dug, I'll bring him over to you're house and he can dig a huge hole! The funny thing was, he digs these holes…and I don't fill them in because as soon as I do he just digs them up again. We were playing in the yard the other day and he tripped and tumbled on one."
When I asked about Bo's favorite toy, apparently any toy will do—and Bill has a routine with Bo every time he goes to the supermarket:
"He likes just about any toy. So when I come home form the grocery store, I usually have something for him. When I come home, his nose is always in the bag like, 'Where's mine?! Where's mine!?' He's just like a little kid."
Name: Bo
Loves: To be chased, sleeping/napping and to play fetch…but not good at letting the ball go!
Escape Artist: "I have a split vinyl fence up and I put the mesh inside, and he was getting out by going underneath the fence, so I put the mesh down and I thought I had it set up good. So I went jogging, and I'm running down the road, and I can hear barking a quarter of a mile away. Then I could hear paws hitting the ground. I looked back and thought, 'that looks like my dog! THAT IS MY DOG!' So what he did, was he gets in the corner of the fence, climbs, up, puts his back paws on the fence and just falls over. So we actually had to install an invisible fence with the collar so that he would stop escaping."
